Wild Sites

Retreat Underwood offers 3 large RV campsites on the property: Foxglove, Little Apple, and Maple.

Private Cobble Hill Camping

Each of our three Cobble Hill “boondocking”-style campsites boasts a large, private plot and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the woods.

When you enter the property, Foxglove is at the top, on the right. Little Apple is next on the left, and down a little and to the right is Maple.

We also believe that each site has its own character, and invite you to learn more about our exclusive Wild RV Sites below.

Foxglove

The foxglove has gone wild! After escaping Grandad’s English garden borders, foxglove (or digitalis purpurea) now self-seed and decorate the forest. Tall flower spikes of pink profusion reach through the underwood, inviting us to tip our faces to the sky and admire the canopy above.

This Wild Site is located at the top right of the property. It is the smallest site we have and is closest to the rarely-trafficked public road.

From Foxglove you can quickly join the Loop Trail at the top of the driveway.

Little Apple

Don't come hungry! Named for the little volunteer apple tree at the site entrance, this tenacious seedling has only ever set one fruit.

It reminds us to persevere, that even the smallest saplings deserve to thrive, and that a beautiful home can be found amongst those different from us.

This site is the only one on the left side of the driveway. It's a long site, and if you were travelling with friends or family it could be shared by two small to medium RV units.

Little Apple backs directly onto the Loop Trail.

Maple

Momma Maple. This Wild Site has two massive maple trees watching over it. These trees were left standing the last time the property was logged, and today their broad canopies shelter our memories, birds, squirrels and children. True Canadian beauties!

Maple is the last site on the right. It’s almost, but not quite, opposite Little Apple. The site itself has a round shape, making it a perfect place to spread out.

Maple has its own trail to the Loop Trail.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s boondocking?

Boondocking is a term used to describe RV camping without hookups or facilities like water, electricity, or sewer. It’s essentially off-grid camping, often popular in remote locations.

At Retreat Underwood you get access to a huge campsite (with great access to the south Island) where you rely on your own resources for power, water, and waste management.

Will my site include water, electricity, or sewer hookups?

No. Our Wild Sites welcome self-contained campers only. Septic, electricity, and water hookups are not provided.

Can I have guests?

Yes, but within the terms of our Guests Policy. You can view it and other details about staying with Retreat Underwood on the Our Values page.

Can I bring a car and my RV?

Yes, one vehicle is allowed in addition to your RV. Extra vehicles need to be approved ahead of time.

Which site(s) should I book if I am travelling with a friend?

Little Apple is the longest site at Retreat Underwood, and could be shared by two small to medium RVs. If you prefer more space, or are travelling with three separate RVs, we suggest renting Little Apple and Maple, as they are the closest to each other.
